KYH Residential Treatment Program

Kathleen York House provides a structured,  six month abstinence-based long term through care model treatment program for Women. Children aged eleven or younger can live in during their mother’s treatment, and we also support women at any stage of their pregnancy.

Our program includes:

Healthy body and mind:

Our program empowers women to improve their physical and mental health, and establish a drug- free lifestyle, with services and activities including:

  • Psychological assessments for mothers and children
  • Psychodynamic process groups
  • Relapse prevention groups counselling
  • Art therapy
  • Recreation, exercise and yoga
  • Psychodrama

Living well and community connections:

While at Kathleen York House, our clients use local medical practices, schools and childcare centres.

Our program includes:

  • Case management
  • Nutrition and sexual health
  • Living skills
  • Court support
  • Advocacy and referral
  • Help accessing allied health and legal services

Our Transition and Aftercare programs support women as they step back into the community and independent living, for up to a year after graduation.

Transition Program

Transition is the period between graduation from the KYH residential program and admission into Aftercare – usually about two months.

Because this can be a high risk time for women, as they move away from the structured residential environment, Transition supports clients as they re-engage with the community. Graduating clients have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the residential program while establishing new routines outside the House.

Aftercare  Program

Once they have completed the six month residential program and two month Transition (or in some cases the KYH Day Program), clients often choose to enroll in our Aftercare Program. Our Aftercare program is also open to suitable clients who have completed other rehabilitation programs with other services.

Aftercare offers clients the opportunity to participate in weekly groups with other Aftercare peers, individual counselling, home visits and parenting support if required.  Community Housing is also an option for some Aftercare clients, for up to 12 months. The general goal of the KYH Aftercare program is to support clients with the transition into housing, education and finding work in order that they are better equipped to re enter the community in a positive way.
