APSAD Conference Darwin -October 2022
Our CEO-Latha Nithyanandam and Board Members -Dr Gilbert Whitton and Carolyn Day attended the APSAD Conference in Darwin this October 2022. Above is the Poster Presentation that was submitted on improving access to treatment and support for women with substance use disorder during COVID-19 restrictions: the experience with telehealth from a women only service.
International Mental Health Conference 2022
Dr Latha Nithyanandam & Michelle Delamotte submitted a presentation called “Response to a Pandemic by a Small Residential Service for Women with Substance Use Dependence” which was accepted by the International Mental Health Conference in the Goldcoast earlier this month. The presentation was delivered by Senior Case Manager -Michelle Delamotte. The talk highlighted KYH’s resourcefulness and nimble response during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

2020 AGM…COVID Style
Each year ADFNSW-Kathleen York House hosts is Annual AGM and invites its Board, KYH Staff, stakeholders, partnering agencies and consumers alike to attend. This engagement allows all attendees to understand the operations and achievements of KYH whilst opening up lines of enhanced communication with everyone present.
Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions in 2020 we were unable to meet our attendees face to face. However, the virtual platform of Zoom allowed our AGM to still go ahead.

COVID-19 Response by ADFNSW-Kathleen York House -WE REMAINED OPEN THROUGHOUT!
Kathleen York house responded to the outbreak of COVID_19with its commitment to client centered best practice. Policy and procedure were written as the pandemic evolved, and the timely and informed responses in the structure of service delivery meant that staff were able to undertake their roles whilst maintaining highest standards of safety for both client and clinicians. NSW Health directives around disease control and sanitation were incorporated into our service delivery, AND BY adhering to protocols placed by health, KYH was able to maintain service delivery in unique and innovative ways.
KYH continued to support an extremely vulnerable section of the community without interruption and offered pandemic responsive residential and outreach care to clients and potential clients over the period of the lockdown.

Farewell to a very special and much member of staff-Tanya Magnay
ADFNSW-Kathleen York House said it’s official and final farewell to Tanya (Clinical Manager for the past4 years and staff member for 7 years). Her incredible energy, passion and leadership has left a large void at KYH. Tanya will be very much missed by all (clients included).

ADFNSW-Kathleen York House staff and clients celebrated what it means to be a mother during the month of May. It was a great day acknowledging the incredible role mothers (or their mother figures) play in women and children’s lives.
UFC fighter Miesha Tate tears up as she meets ‘inspirational women’ using mixed martial arts to rebuild their lives
Residents and Staff at ADFNSW-Kathleen York House would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the team at UFC Alexandria for their incredible commitment to the improvement of rebuilding the lives of those recovering from substance dependence, mental health issues and domestic violence.
UFC Gym Sydney in Alexandria has recently become a partner of ADFNSW-Kathleen York House.
The clients at ADFNSW-Kathleen York House have been gaining tremendous value from the UFC training.In the words of the Clinical Manager at KYH (Tanya Magnay) “UFC training helps them feel empowered through a form of fitness. We have a very strong partnership with UFC, they’ve been nothing but supportive and almost protective of our group”.
In the words of Miesha Tate UFC Champion “MMA strengthens more than just your muscles, it also strengthens the mind”.
This is just one example of how ADFNSW-Kathleen York House strives to ensure that their rehabilitation program for substance abuse is conducted in a wholistic manner.
This is also an example of how community groups and generous local businesses are able to come together and create incredible results for their clients utilizing their resources and specific skill sets.

Shadows Amongst Us Exhibition (at Jubilee Room -Parliament House)
ADFNSW-Kathleen York House decided to showcase the incredible talents of two of its past residents.
The exhibition Shadows Amongst Us (March 17th 2016) was celebrated by staff and stakeholders alike and portrayed the journey of the relationship of the Therapist (through prose) and Ex-Resident (through painting). Sculptures were also created.
Everybody at KYH would like to thank the local Balmain MP-Jamie Parker and his team for the incredible effort they put in to ensure that the event ran smoothly. We would also like to thank all attendees for their invaluable support at this exhibition. At KYH we love to celebrate the successes of our residents, as well as acknowledge the incredible contribution of staff and Board members.

Russell Brand visits KYH
Yes that really is Russell Brand…the tall one in the middle there.
Russell Brand kindly visited staff, clients and ex-clients of Kathleen York House recently ( October 25th 2015).
He shared his experiences, philosophies and recovery as well as supporting women and their families in combating this ” Spiritual Crisis” (his words).
His authentic desire to help others through recovery was demonstrated when one of the clients asked for advice around her son’s drug problem and he personally got on the phone to mentor him through his struggles and offer his support.
Everybody at KYH would like to thank you, Russell, for your honest, amusing, inspiring and heartfelt words.
Christmas in July
Staff at KYH prepared a BBQ for Xmas in July (July 28th 2015) to celebrate past client ( and current clients) success in recovery. It was a great day enjoyed by staff and clients alike. Looking forward to celebrating many more client successes in years to come.

Staff at ADFNSW-Kathleen York House attended its annual CPR and First Aid training on July 13th 2016.
Here’s to hoping that we never actually have to use this training…but as they say “it’s better to be safe than sorry”.
ADFNSW-Kathleen York House would also like to introduce its new First Aid Officer Lauren (also one of our key AOD Workers).
We’re happy to say that she passed her training with flying colours 🙂
Farewell to a very special and much member of staff-Tanya Magnay
ADFNSW-Kathleen York House said it’s official and final farewell to Tanya (Clinical Manager for the past4 years and staff member for 7 years). Her incredible energy, passion and leadership has left a large void at KYH. Tanya will be very much missed by all (clients included).
Everybody at KYH wish Tanya (and her family) every success in her future.

ADFNSW-Kathleen York House staff and clients celebrated what it means to be a mother during the month of May. It was a great day acknowledging the incredible role mothers (or their mother figures) play in women and children’s lives.

UFC Gym Sydney in Alexandria has recently become a partner of ADFNSW-Kathleen York House.
The clients at ADFNSW-Kathleen York House have been gaining tremendous value from the UFC training.In the words of the Clinical Manager at KYH (Tanya Magnay) “UFC training helps them feel empowered through a form of fitness. We have a very strong partnership with UFC, they’ve been nothing but supportive and almost protective of our group”.
In the words of Miesha Tate UFC Champion “MMA strengthens more than just your muscles, it also strengthens the mind”.
This is just one example of how ADFNSW-Kathleen York House strives to ensure that their rehabilitation program for substance abuse is conducted in a wholistic manner.
This is also an example of how community groups and generous local businesses are able to come together and create incredible results for their clients utilizing their resources and specific skill sets.
Residents and Staff at ADFNSW-Kathleen York House would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the team at UFC Alexandria for their incredible commitment to the improvement of rebuilding the lives of those recovering from substance dependence, mental health issues and domestic violence.

Shadows Amongst Us Exhibition (at Jubilee Room -Parliament House)
ADFNSW-Kathleen York House decided to showcase the incredible talents of two of its past residents.
The exhibition Shadows Amongst Us (March 17th 2016) was celebrated by staff and stakeholders alike and portrayed the journey of the relationship of the Therapist (through prose) and Ex-Resident (through painting). Sculptures were also created.
Everybody at KYH would like to thank the local Balmain MP-Jamie Parker and his team for the incredible effort they put in to ensure that the event ran smoothly. We would also like to thank all attendees for their invaluable support at this exhibition. At KYH we love to celebrate the successes of our residents, as well as acknowledge the incredible contribution of staff and Board members.

Russell Brand visits KYH
Yes that really is Russell Brand…the tall one in the middle there.
Russell Brand kindly visited staff, clients and ex-clients of Kathleen York House recently ( October 25th 2015).
He shared his experiences, philosophies and recovery as well as supporting women and their families in combating this ” Spiritual Crisis” (his words).
His authentic desire to help others through recovery was demonstrated when one of the clients asked for advice around her son’s drug problem and he personally got on the phone to mentor him through his struggles and offer his support.

Christmas in July
Staff at KYH prepared a BBQ for Xmas in July (July 28th 2015) to celebrate past client ( and current clients) success in recovery. It was a great day enjoyed by staff and clients alike. Looking forward to celebrating many more client successes in years to come.

KYH Playground Inauguration
Kathleen York House would sincerely like to thank the efforts made by local MP-Jamie Parker in assisting in the attainment of a Community Grant which allowed KYH to install a playground for children to use when visiting or residing at KYH.
KYH would also like to thank the many supporters who attended our playground inauguration. We look forward to hosting and attending many more celebratory events.
